Fund Purpose
GA: provide financial assistance to students interested in a career in criminal defense who are participating in an externship in a Public Defender's office in Florida during a summer or semester. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate need. The financial assistance will be for support during the term of the externship.

This fellowship supports practical education for students who are interested in a career in criminal defense. It honors the memory of UF alumnus Kirk N. Kirkconnell, who received his bachelor’s degree in 1965, and his juris doctorate in 1968. Kirk was a leading criminal defense attorney in Central Florida and believed practical experience and education were vital for a successful career. He passed away in 201
