GA: Awarded annually to a pediatric resident or fellow who has advocated/worked to improve the quality of the lives of children/families. May be used as a stipend or travel expenses to pediatric conferences at the discretion of the Chair of Pediatrics. (See GA)
Audrey Lincourt Schiebler
This fund established in 2015, honors the children’s advocacy work of Mrs. Audrey Lincourt Schiebler, and is awarded to a pediatric resident of fellow who has worked to improve the quality of lives for children and families.
Mrs. Schiebler was a renowned children’s rights advocate. She is the late wife of Gerold L. Schiebler, M.D., a Professor Emeritus and Distinguished Service professor of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida.
Mrs. Schiebler was born in Newport, RI in 1933. She attended St. Catherine’s Academy for girls and graduated from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing. After moving to Gainesville in 1960, Mrs. Schiebler became a distinguished volunteer of Florida. She served as President of the University of Florida Medical Guild, Medical Auxiliary and Junior League of Gainesville. Through the Junior Leagues, she conducted a national survey on the status of the local, state and national support services for children, which led Mrs. Schiebler and others to create the Alachua County Council on Child Abuse. For 20 years, she acted as the Vice Chair of The Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida. From 1987 to 2000, Mrs. Schiebler worked for UF’s Institute for Child Health Policy.
Mrs. Schiebler was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Florida Bar Foundation in 1990. She was a Florida Blue Key Honorary Member, and an honorary fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She and Dr. Schiebler were married for 61 years and had six children and 17 grandchildren. Mrs. Schiebler passed away in 2015.
