Joseph and Doris Walton
This fund was established in 2015 by Doris A. Walton in memory of her husband, Joseph A. Walton, Jr., M.D. to support need-based scholarships to students in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida.
Joseph was a native of Crescent City, Florida. He was a retired U.S. Air Force captain and cardiologist. Joseph earned a bachelor’s degree in 1956 and a medical degree in 1960, both from the University of Florida. He was a professor emeritus at the University of Michigan and a former professor at East Tennessee State University. He also taught cardiology in Beijing, China. Joseph was trained in angioplasty in Switzerland and was the first cardiologist to bring the procedure to Michigan. He was a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the Tennessee Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and entertaining his grandchildren.
