History
After watching his father battle cancer, Bob Carnes decided he wanted to do something that would make an impact on patient care. In memory of his father, he made a $100,000 gift to create the Jimmy Carnes Memorial Fellowship to support graduate nursing students.
Jimmy Carnes passed away in 2011 after a long and successful career in athletics. He was the UF track and field team head coach from 1965 to 1976, leading the team to two SEC indoor track championships and finishing in the top three in the SEC 15 times. Although neither Jimmy nor Bob, a 1985 College of Journalism and Communications alumnus, had any link to the College of Nursing, Bob witnessed the importance of nurses during the care of his father.
