Robert T. Watson, M.D. Scholarship Endowed Fund
Support scholarships for medical students in the College of Medicine.
This fund was established to honor the career of Robert T. Watson, M.D. Dr. Watson earned his bachelor’s degree in 1965 and his medical degree in 1969 from the University of Florida. He has served as Associate Dean for educational Affairs the UF Health College of Medicine since 1990.
Robert’s research focuses on Behavior Neuropsychology, a field in which he has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and chapters. He is recognized as an outstanding teacher, having received both the Hippocratic Award in 1985 as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, two of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a faculty member. Furthermore, he is a Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty Member, and is the recipient of the 1998 Florida Medical Association’s (FMA) Leadership in Medical Education Award.
Under Watson’s leadership and guidance, the UF College of Medicine established the Thomas H. Maren Medical Student Reading Room at the Health Science Center to provide a place for students to read and reflect on medical literature, which eventually led to the development of the Narrative Medicine Program at the College of Medicine.
He is married to Carolyn C. Watson and they have two children, Mary C. Watson and Robert J. Watson.
