Fund Purpose
The spendable income from the Fund shall be used to support students at the University in the Bernie and Chris Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program. If the program ceases to exist at the University, then the income shall be used to support scholarship awards to first generation Florida students with low family incomes.

This fund was established in 2013 by James D. and Janie E. Tate to support the Florida Opportunity Scholarship Program at the University of Florida.
James earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Florida in 1985. He is the co-owner and CEO of TKO Apparel, Inc. James is also the co-owner of Tate Realty, Inc. and Tate Development Corporation, two real estate and development companies in south Florid
