Jo Annalee “Jodi” Irving
This fund was established in 2012 by Brenda Barton-Wheaton and Dr. Richard Wheaton to support scholarship awards to undergraduate students studying in the University of Florida College of Nursing in honor of Jodi Irving.
Jodi earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida State University in 1964 and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland in 1970. She was conferred an honorary alumni of the University of Florida in 2008. Jodi joined the UF College of Nursing faculty in 1965, retired in 2011 and in 2012 was named as a Faculty Emeritus. She continues to teach part-time in the Doctoral Program of the Psychiatric Mental Health Track and maintains a part-time private practice.
Jodi serves on the Board of Directors for both Meridian Behavioral Health and the Gainesville Opportunity Center. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Nurses Association, the Florida Nurses Association and the American Association of Psychiatric Nursing, and the UF College of Nursing Alumni Council.
Jodi was awarded a number of teaching awards during her tenure, including two Teaching Improvement Awards, given at the University level.
