San Martin Family Florida Opportunity Scholarship
The spendable income of the Fund shall be used to support Florida Opportunity Scholarships for students at the University. If the FOS program ceases to exist at the University, then the spendable income shall be used to support scholarship awards to first generation Florida students with low family incomes.
This fund was established in 2012 by Ronald and Sylvia San Martin to support
the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program at the University.
Ronald earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from the University of Florida in 1970 and 1972, respectively. He is the co-owner of several highly acclaimed restaurants in the Atlanta, GA, including Canoe, which has been named one of the top 100 best restaurants in America by OpenTable for several years. Ronald has been in the restaurant business since 1973, when he joined Contemp Restaurant Concepts. In 1992, he began working for Rare Hospitality International, Inc., which operates over 100 restaurants in the Southeast and Midwest. Ronald held a variety of administrative positions at Rare, including CEO, COO and director.
Sylvia earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida in 1970. She is a former assistant of the Harold and Mary Jean Hanson Rare Book Collection at UF Smathers Librarie
