Earl and Christy Powell University Chair in Gene Therapy and Genetics Research

Established in 2011 by Earl and Christy Powell to help fund research conducted at the UF Health Science Center, which focuses on genetics research and gene therapy, as well as to aid patients in the therapy center.
Earl attended the University of Florida college of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1961 before graduating from the University of Miami. He then went on to hold top positions for numerous companies, including chairman of Brown Jordan and was co-founder, partner, and CEO of Trivest, Inc. Powell is now a trustee for the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, and he also works for the Powell Family Foundation, Inc. Powell was a PC Weekend Honoree and has been affiliated with the UFF Board of Directors, the UF Board of Trustees, and the Bull Gator Club.
Christy also attended the University of Florida where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology in 1971. She then went on to also work for Trivest, Inc. and is now the secretary for the Powell Family Foundation.
