History
Ellen Granberg Eells (1942–2008) received her nursing degree in 1964 from the University of Florida College of Nursing. She felt that “UF had new ideas at the time, making this college an exciting place to be.” She went on to practice nursing for 12 years and taught at Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee, as well as St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Ft. Worth, Texas. When husband, Dr. William J. Eells, deployed to Vietnam, she returned to Gainesville and served as In-Service Education Director at Alachua General Hospital.
In 1997, the Ellen Granberg Eells Excellence Fund in Nursing was established to support a program she believed would provide students with “wonderful, lifelong skills to benefit oneself and others.”
