Anita Zucker Endowed Professorship in Early Childhood Studies

This fund was established in 2011 by Anita Zucker to support a professorship in Early Childhood Studies at the College of Education.

Zucker received her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida in 1972 and her master’s degree from the University of North Florida in educational administration and supervision. She taught elementary school for 11 years.

Zucker is the chairwoman and CEO of The InterTech Group, Inc., one of the largest privately-held corporations in the U.S. The company was founded by her late spouse, Jerry Zucker, who received a bachelor’s degree from UF in 1972. She also owns the Carolina Ice Palace, Tristan restaurant and fifty percent of the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. She was the first woman governor of the Hudson’s Bay Co.

A prominent executive and philanthropist, Zucker has received numerous awards for her service, contributions and commitment to her community and the state of South Carolina. She has served or serves in a leadership role for many organizations, including The Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaboration, the College of Charleston School of Business, Trident United Way, Saul Alexander Foundation, The Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston Jewish Federation.

Zucker is the recipient of The Book of Golden Deeds presented by The Exchange Club of Charleston; the “Order of the Palmetto” presented by Gov. David Beasley; an honorary doctorate of education degree from the Citadel; a doctor of humane letters from the University of South Carolina; the Champions for Education Award from the Community Foundation; and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Florida, just to name a few.
