Peter Gearen, M.D. Endowed Professorship in Orthopaedics
GA: Support a professorship in orthopaedics; professor's research and salary as well as provide resources for program development that enable educators to pursue projects at the forefront of orthopaedics.
This fund was established in 2011 by the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute to support a professorship in orthopedics at the University of Florida in honor of Peter Gearen, M.D.
Peter earned a bachelor’s degree from Spring Hill College in 1970. He studied pre-med at the the University of Illinois from 1971 to 1972 and earned a medical degree from Stritch-Loyola Medical School in 1975. Peter completed his internship in 1976 at the University of Chicago Hospitals, his residency at the University of Florida in 1982, and his fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1983.
Peter was a member of the UF faculty for almost 30 years, retiring in 2012. He was chief of staff at UF Health Shands Hospital, the assistant dean of clinical affairs at the UF College of Medicine, chairman of the UF Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and has served as an associate professor of orthopedics.
