Purpose
This fund supports scholarship awards for College of Nursing students in memory of Shayna A. Teijido.
History
Daniel Teijido and Debra A. Tuohy established this fund in 2011 to support undergraduate and graduate scholarship awards to College of Nursing students at the University of Florida in memory of their daughter, Shayna.
Shayna was awarded an honorary bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Florida in 2011. She was a member of the Sigma Phi Lambda Christian sorority and the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. Shayna was involved with the College of Nursing mentoring program, and was a lifeguard at UF’s Lake Wauburg. She volunteered with Gainesville Pet Rescue and Noah’s Endeavor, a program for children mostly with disabilities to do recreational activities. During her freshman year at UF, Shayna worked as a camp counselor at the Elks Youth Camp. In 2009 she travelled to Guatemala on a mission trip dedicated to serving the needs of children at a local orphanage.
Shayna passed away in 2011. Debra passed away later the same year.
