Drs. Martin and Sandra Fackler HSCL Endowment
GA: Shall be used in the discreton of the Associate Dean and Director of Health Science Library with the consultation of the Dean to support greatest needs including purchasing and processing books and other educational materials at the Health Science Center Libraries.
This fund was established in 2011 by Martin and Sandra Fackler to support the Health Science Center Libraries at the University of Florida.
Martin was a honorary University of Florida alumni. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1955 and a medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine in 1959 before joining the U.S. Army’s Medical Corps. Martin, was a retired colonel, who served as a battlefield surgeon and head of the Wound Ballistics Laboratory for the U.S. Army’s Medical Training Center, Letterman Institute of Research on the Presidio Army Base. He is credited with a number of contributions to the field of terminal ballistics, including over 300 publications. Martin wrote and consulted on wound ballistics, working with law enforcement and military groups worldwide. He testified as a wound ballistics expert in over 200 forensic cases in the U.S., Canada, England and Northern Ireland.
Sandra was a fundraiser and development officer for the UF Foundation. She retired as the senior director of development for the Foundation in 2010.
