This fund was established in 2009 by Dr. Madelyn M. Lockhart to support curatorial research, travel and publication at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.
Dr. Madelyn M. Lockhart joined the College of Business Faculty at UF in 1960. She held an undergraduate degree in Economics from Denison University and a Master’s and Doctor degree in Economics from Ohio State University. In 1967 she left to take an Associate Professor position at the University of Tennessee and after that at Ohio State University and Guilford College. She was appointed to President Johnson’s Council of Social Advisors in 1969, to the National Task Force on Population for the U.S. Bureau of the Census from 1973-1977 and to President Nixon’s National Task Force on Revenue Sharing from 1975-1977.
She returned to UF as a Professor in Economics and was appointed Associate Dean of the Graduate School in 1981. She became Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of International Studies in 1985 and was elected President of the Southern Conference of Graduate Deans in 1992. She has traveled extensively in Africa and her research has appeared in more than 50 publications and technical reports. She served on the USAID Committee on Africa from 1985-1991. Retiring from UF, she continued to serve as a consultant to government and education agencies.
Madelyn passed away in 2015.
