Walter Weyrauch Distinguished Lecture Series in Family Law Fund

In 2008, this lecture was established in honor of Professor Walter O. Weyrauch, internationally known for his work in foreign and family law. The Center for Children and Families hosts distinguished speakers in the area of family law and children’s law to promote research in areas crucial to children and their families.

Walter O. Weyrauch was born on August 27, 1919 in Germany. He joined the University of Florida’s Fredric G. Levin College of Law faculty in 1957 as an associate professor. He became a full professor in 1960, was the Clarence J. TeSeller Professor from 1989-94 and became the Stephen C. O’Connell Chair in 1994 and Distinguished Professor in 1998. He was named an Honorary Professor of Law at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Germany and was on the visiting faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, Rutgers University School of Law and University of Frankfurt.

Weyrauch’s teaching and scholarship focused on family law, business organizations, comparative law, law and society, legal philosophy, and autonomous informal lawmaking and he was widely published in these areas. He retired in December 2007 following 51 continuous years of distinguished teaching and scholarship at UF.

Walter Weyrauch passed away on October 17, 2008.
