This fund was established by the estate of Mildred Mason Griffith in 2008 to support teaching, research and programs in Botany in the Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Mildred Mason Griffith was born in Ardmore, OK, and moved to Gainesville in 1950 from Berkeley, CA. She was a professor emeritus in the Department of Botany at the University of Florida. She received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, TX, a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She was one of the first women to join the faculty when UF became co-educational.
She was married to Jay of Whitefish, MT and they had one daughter, Nina Christeen.
Mildred passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008 at age 101.
