This fund was established in 2008 by Elling Eide to support a chair in Southeastern United States Native American (Indian) languages. It will enhance scholarship and provide opportunities for teaching, research in linguistics, and language preservation, especially as related to the Miccosukee, Seminole (Mvskoke), and associated languages, and the languages spoken by indigenous Florida Indians, especially the Timucua and the Caloosa.
