The estate of Howard W. Smoyer established this fund in 2008. Howard, born in 1913, earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida in 1934 and master’s degree in chemistry from Georgia Tech. After teaching in high schools in Saint Petersburg and working with the 46th Chemical Laboratory Company during World War II, Howard moved to Tallahassee to become a chemistry professor for Florida State University in 1947. While living in Tallahassee, Howard and his wife of 62 years, Norma, were involved with Trinity United Methodist Church, the Round Dance Council of Florida and the Tallahassee Twirlers. Norma passed away in 2001 and Howard passed away in April 200
