Joseph R. Julin Scholarship Fund

Joseph Richard Julin was dean of the UF law school from 1971 to 1980. He helped boost the college into national prominence. After graduating from Northwestern University in 1952 with a juris doctor, he worked for associates Schuyler, Stough and Morris in Chicago from 1952 to 1957. He was partner from 1957 to 1959. Julin was Associate Professor of Law at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 1959 to 1962, and Professor of Law from 1962 to 1970. He served as associate dean from 1968 to 1970. During his tenure, the UF Graduate Tax Program was established and now ranks among the nation’s best for the advanced study of tax law. Stepping down as dean, he became active in professional associations and was elected for a term as president of the National Conference of Bar Examiners, served as president of the Association of American Law Schools and chaired the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions. From 1985 until his death in 1993, he held the Chesterfield Smith Professorship of Law at UF.
