Alan and Carol Squitieri
This fund was established by the estate of Alan V. Squitieri in 2007 to support teaching, research and programs in the Performing Arts program in the College of the Arts.
Alan Squitieri was born March 10, 1913, in New York City. He was raised by his grandmother in Italy. He played violin in large venues, such as Carnegie Hall. Later, he became a real estate developer who built more than forty shopping centers, including Gainesville’s Oaks Mall. He passed away on June 10, 2005, at the age of 92.
Carol Squitieri was born September 27, 1934. She graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 1957 and a master’s degree in Education in 1980. She taught Spanish at Westwood Middle School and Hawthorne and Buchholz High Schools. Alan was named one of “50 People Who Made A Difference in North Central Florida” by The Gainesville Sun in 2000.
