C. M. Overstreet Family Research Endowment for Spinal Cord Injury
GA: support research towards finding a cure for spinal cord injury in the Dept of Neurological Surgery at the College of Medicine.
This fund was established in 2007 by Charlie Mack Overstreet to support research towards finding a cure for spinal cord injury in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the College of Medicine.
The family’s interest in spinal cord research and regeneration began after their son Mark’s spinal cord was injured by an accidental rifle shot in 1970, which paralyzed him from the waist down and confined him to a wheelchair. Charlie Mack Overstreet was responsible for the 1992 “Charlie Mack Overstreet Law” that earmarks monies from civil court penalties for the University of Florida and the University of Miami for spinal cord and brain injury research. Charlie and Katherine have two children and six grandchildren. Katherine passed away on July 11, 2002.
