David Lawrence Jr. Endowed Chair in Early Childhood Studies
GA: support professorship which will provide leadership and vision to energize cross disciplinary initiatives within or of the University of Florida with a specific focus on improving services and systems affecting infants, young children and their families.
Established in 2004, this fund honors David Lawrence, Jr. Lawrence earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida and was named outstanding journalism graduate. He completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in 1983 and holds 12 honorary doctorates, including one from UF. After spending 35 years in newspapers, he retired in 1999 as publisher of The Miami Herald to work in the area of early childhood development and readiness. He is the president of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation in Miami, chair of The Children’s Trust in Miami-Dade County and “University Scholar for Early Childhood Development and Readiness” at UF.
