Dr. Maurice Moore Fellowship in Medicinal Chemistry
Estate: support fellowship awards to graduate students in the area of medicinal chemistry.
This fund was established in 2007 by the estate of Dr. Maurice Lee Moore. Moore was born September 11, 1909 in Laurel Hill, FL. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemistry from the University of Florida in 1930 and 1931 respectively. He also earned a doctorate in Chemistry in 1934 from Northwestern University where he met his wife, Charlotte Margaret Holg.
Moore had been the past president of the Association of Research Directors, executive vice president of Winthrop Laboratories, and corporate science officer of Sterling Drug. He began working at Sterling in 1959 and continued on for 15 years before retiring in 1974.
Moore was also a member and former officer of several professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the New York Metropolitan Reference and Research Agency.
He passed away December 31, 2003 at the age of 94 and Charlotte passed shortly after her husband on January 30, 2004. They are survived by their two children, Dr. Amanda Moore and Dr. Daniel Moor
