The estate of Maurice and Frances Holmes established this endowment in 2006 in memory of Joseph Jay Deiss. Deiss was born on January 25, 1912 in Twin Falls, ID. He was a journalist, author and novelist who lectured in the United States and Italy. He was also a courtesy professor in the Classics Department at the University of Florida.
