This fund was established in 2006 for the purpose of supporting research in macular degeneration or other retinal eye diseases if and when a successful treatment is found for macular degeneration.
Charlie Mack Overstreet was born on January 6, 1924 in Kissimmee, FL. He is responsible for the Charlie Mack Overstreet Law passed by the Florida Legislature in 1992. Overstreet was married to Katherine E. Overstreet and has two children: Mark and Nancy. Overstreet, a rancher, has been treated for age-related macular degeneration, which affects the macula, or central area of the retina that allows “straight-ahead” vision. He was named Tree Farmer of The Year in the 1980s. Overstreet enjoys fishing and riding on his land.
