Bertram Wyatt-Brown

Bertram Wyatt-Brown is the Richard J. Milbauer History Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida. He received his academic degrees from the University of the South in 1953, King’s College Cambridge in 1957 and Johns Hopkins University in 1963.

He has helped develop one of the regions leading graduate programs in southern history, supervising nearly 30 PhD students. By 2001, the history program ranked 36th in the nation, standing second only to chemistry by U.S. News and World Report polling of national standings in graduate education.

Bertram is the author of ten books including Southern Honor: Ethics and Behavior in the Old South for which he was a history finalist for the American Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1983. Bertram has also published over 90 articles, forewords, and essays, and nearly 150 book reviews and essay reviews. He has been appointed a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University.

He and his wife Anne live in Baltimore, MD. They have two grandchildren, Anders and Annik
