Justice Jorge Labarga Merit Scholarship
GA: support scholarship to Cuban Amer Law student who has distinguished himself through academic achievement or any law student has distinguished himself through academic achievement & through significant scholarship on the subject of human rights violations in Cuba or re-establishment of a democratic rule of law in Cuba.
This scholarship originated in 2004 by the Cuban American Bar Foundation (CABA), an organization which keeps ever-present the value of living and participating in a democratic society. CABA dates back to 1974 when a group of approximately 20 Cuban attorneys banded together in Miami to serve as resources to each other in a foreign legal community.
Now one of the larger voluntary bars in Florida with over 1,800 members, CABA continues to attract new members without needing to conduct membership campaigns. Although most members have Cuban roots, not all are Cuban Americans; many lawyers in the community join CABA because of its excellent reputation for being a family — supporters of each other and supporters of the law. In addition to the well attended annual CABA Installation Dinner, CABA coordinates and hosts a number of programs and annual events; including the Fall and Spring Mentor Program Receptions, various seminars, pro-bono fundraisers for CABA’s Pro-Bono Program and Judicial and Legislative luncheon
