Fred and Charlotte Rozelle Sport Management Endowment

Fund Purpose
GA (amended): support undergraduate scholarships for students in College of Health and Human Performance who are majoring in either Sport Management or Physical Education Pedagogy.

The Rozelle’s established this fund in 2002 to support undergraduate scholarships for students in College of Health and Human Performance who are majoring in either Sport Management or Physical Education Pedagogy.  Frederick E. “Fred” Rozelle, Sr., originally came to UF on a four-year football scholarship, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education in 1950 and 1953.

His lengthy career as an educator includes a great deal of work in several Florida high schools. In fact, as head coach of the basketball and football teams at Jacksonville High, Fred led his basketball team to two Big Ten Conference Championships and his football team to the conference championship. He was named Basketball Head Coach of the Year by his conference in 1954. In addition, Fred served as area superintendent of Pinellas County schools, President of the Florida High School Activities Association (FHSAA) and later Commissioner of FHSAA . During his eleven years as Commissioner, Rozelle was responsible for overseeing sports and music programs in more than 500 schools. In recognition of his exemplary work, the FHSAA honored him with the naming of the Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award for schools with outstanding good sportsmanship. In 2004, Fred received the Distinguished Alumnus award from UF’s College of Health & Human Performance.
