Lewis “Lukie” Ansbacher Memorial Scholarship
Support scholarship to law student(s) having completed at least 3 semesters & accumulated 40 credit hours, has completed a minimum of 2 courses in real property or in related subject area & evidences an interest in practicing in field of real property law.
Lewis “Lukie” Ansbacher
In 2004, clients, friends and family of Lewis “Lukie” Ansbacher (1928-2004) established this scholarship in his honor. Lukie attended the University of Florida at age 15 where he earned both his undergraduate and law degree. After completing military service with the U.S. Army JAG he began private law practice in Jacksonville, FL where he later formed the firm of Ansbacher & Schneider, P.A. His expertise in real property was recognized throughout the state.
Lukie served as chairman of Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund, Inc., and as a director of several Community and National banks. He served as president of the Jacksonville Legal Aid Society and of the Jewish Community and Family Services.
His collection of antique maps which he donated to the Jacksonville Public Library has become the centerpiece of the special collections housed in the Morris Ansbacher Map Room, named in honor of Lukie’s father.
Lukie was also active in the bar where he was a published author, and active member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. He was a mentor to countless young attorneys.
Lukie is survived by his wife Sybil, brothers Jordan and Robert, and sons Richard, Lawrence and Barry all University of Florida alumn
