Horace & Vivian Sawyer Endowment for Scholarships in Forensic Vocational Rehabilitation
Support scholarships for Social and Behavioral Science students interested in working with people with disabilities (psychiatric and/or physical) or chronic disease; preference given to those individuals whose career path supports community reintegration. Criteria determined by the College of Public Health and Health Professions' Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee.
Horace W. and Vivian Sawyer established this fund in 2004. An undergraduate alumni of the University of South Carolina, Horace completed his graduate studies at West Virginia University in 1965 and earned his doctorate in education in counseling at Auburn University eight years later.
Horace works on UF’s faculty team as a professor and served as Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling from 1983 to 2005. A certified rehabilitation counselor and a certified case manager, Horace has been internationally recognized by his peers and honored with a number of awards, including the Distinguished Career Award in 1994 from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education, the 1999 Educator of the Year award from the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association of Life Care Plannin
