Fred Fisher

This fund was established in 2003 by Frederick E. Fisher, Gary R. Gerson and Alfred C. Warrington IV to enhance the academic learning environment and promote the development of positive goals and the principle of independence for students and alumni. The gallery presents the evolving history of accounting in Florida and recognizes the outstanding alumni, teachers and friends who have contributed to their university, profession and community.

After service in the U.S. Army, Fisher attended the University of Florida and received his BSBA in accounting in 1959. He was a member of Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies. The school of accounting was named for Fisher in 1986 to recognize his $6.5 million gift – the largest contribution to a State University at that time. He was honored with a Doctorate of Humane Letters (1990) and the Distinguished Alumnus Award (2004).

Gerson earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration from UF, where he was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi and Florida Blue Key. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Gerson began his private practice in South Florida in 1959. Gerson received UF’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1992. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from St. Thomas University, and was named Citizen of the Year by Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce in 1996.
