Jack B. Humphries Leadership Award
Letter: support annual award in memory of Drs Maclachlan & Ehrmann for majors in Sociology with interest in career in sociology field; must be in good standing & in activities, including campus musical groups, clubs, sports clubs, student government, speech team, debate team, professional organizations & clubs in the community.
This fund was established in 2003 in honor of Jack B. Humphries. Humphries was a student at the University of Florida from 1945 to 1949. Prior to attending the University of Florida, he served in World War II in the United States Army Air Force. While he was attending UF, he was a member of Florida Blue Key, the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Cavaliers and the State Student Organization. He was also active in other organizations such as the Jacksonville Club and the Red Cross. Additionally, Humphries was senior class president; he served on the editorial board of the Alligator, the Blue Key Speakers Bureau, and the Seminole Staff. In 1949, he was honored by being elected to the UF student Hall of Fame. He returned to UF as a graduate student and received his master’s degree in education in 1954. After graduation, he taught at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL. Humphries passed away in 2003.
