Gus H. Hancock, Jr. Endowment Fund

Fund Purpose
Estate: support teaching, research and outreach programs in College of Journalism.

This fund, established through the estate of Gus Hancock in 2003, supports programs in the College of Journalism and Communications. Gus Hancock, JM 1956, MAMC 1961, left most of his estate to support teaching, research and service programs in the College.

Commander Hancock had a career of more than 35 years in U.S. Naval Intelligence, serving in the Pacific and European theaters as well as Norfolk, VA and Washington, D.C. He traveled extensively after he retired from active duty in 1979 and published numerous travel articles on the Soviet Union, Antarctica, the South Pacific and East Africa. He was named executive director of Naval Intelligence Professionals in 1988 and full-time editor of the association’s Quarterly in 1990. He died on October 1, 2001 at the age of 67.
