Irving and Rose Fien Reading Fellowship
GA: support graduate fellowship in College of Education for current reading initiatives.
Irving Fien created this fellowship in memory of his wife, Rose, to enhance reading initiatives in the College of Education. Irving, who almost dropped out of high school during the Great Depression, cited his gift as a way of giving back to the education system that so greatly enriched his life. He ran a successful family business in Miami for many years and has been committed to helping the poor and the homeless throughout his career. The Fiens also established a professorship at UF in elementary and special education aimed at helping at-risk children stay in school and succeed.
