Frank P. Glowczewskie Professorship

Fund Purpose
Support professorship for teaching and research in musculoskeletal disease.

Frank P. Glowczewskie, Jr., is a retired University of Florida associate faculty member of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in the College of Medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Florida in 1990. Glowczewskie’s long career at UF began in 1974 as a research surgical technician. He was an extremely hard worker and advanced through the orthopaedic research division ranks until he was named Director of UF’s Department of Orthopaedics Bone Bank in 1982. Under Glowczewskie’s direction the Bone Bank ultimately flourished and eventually became a Direct Support Organization for UF.

Glowczewskie was Chairman of the Board of the University of Florida Tissue Bank from 1995-1999. During his tenure as Chairman of the Board, the UF Tissue Bank grew rapidly due to the introduction of preprocessed allografts into musculoskeletal implants. The UF Tissue Bank was so successful during this period that it created a private, for-profit entity known as Regeneration Technologies, Inc. (RTI) in 1998. In 2000, RTI went public with an IPO worth $350 million. The University of Florida’s share of the IPO was $60 million. These proceeds were used to build the impressive UF&Shands Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute, the Cancer and Genetics Research Building and to fund this professorship.

Glowczewskie retired from the Department and Rehabilitation and the Tissue Banking business in 2001. He is married to Marilyn Glowczewskie and together they have a son, daughter and nine grandchildren. This Professorship was named for Frank Glowczewskie in recognition of his vision, years of tireless service and outstanding contribution to medicine, orthopaedic science and UF.
