Richard E. “Dick” Jones Endowment #2
GA: support Office of Student Life in Athletic Program at UF.
This endowment, established in 2002, supports distinct achievement in Gator football and honors the memory of Dick Jones.
In 1951, Dick joined the coaching staff at the University of Florida. In his second year, he became assistant line coach and named head recruiter. Dick recruited for football, baseball, basketball and track. Dick stayed on with the University throughout the 1950s. He then took a job with the Florida Industrial Commission in Gainesville, FL, where he monitored child labor and compensation programs until his retirement in 1981. Upon retirement, Dick was a regular at Gator football practices. Coach Steve Spurrier named him as official keeper of the Gate. Dick welcomed players, coaches and family alike onto the Gator practice field and enjoyed every moment.
