David M. and Ann C. Hicks Endowment
Support research in psychiatric disorders in the Dept of Psychiatry in College of Medicine.
This fund was established by David M. and Ann C. Hicks in 2001 for the purpose of supporting research in psychiatric disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine.
David was born in Worcester, MA and grew up among the manufacturing elite of New England with his parents and four brothers. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1960.
David is the chairman of the Jacksonville Housing Authority and has made great strides for Jacksonville’s public housing. He bought out the founder of Computer Power, Inc. which he transformed from a small data processor into a giant. Hicks sold Computer Power to Alltel in 1992, retiring as its president and director. He is an active member of the Jacksonville community where he was the 2005 recipient of the Prime F. Osborne III Distinguished Business Leader Award. He served as chairman of Jacksonville Housing Authority from 1995 to 2002, was chairman of HabiJax and a founding member of Jacksonville Community Council, Inc.
Ann, a Jacksonville native, earned a bachelor’s degree in art history in 1959 from Mount Holyoke College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida in 1995.
David and Ann have three children.
