This fund was established by Dr. Pauline O. Lawrence in 2003. She received the B.S. (Honors) in Zoology from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica in 1969. She earned an M.S. in 1972 and the Ph.D. in 1975 in Entomology from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Florida. Dr. Lawrence joined the UF faculty in 1976 as an Assistant Professor of Zoology and rose through the ranks to Full Professor in 1989, teaching and conducting research until December 1993. She was Professor of Insect Physiology and Biochemistry in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at UF from 1994 until her retirement in 2011.
She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and has served in elected and other leadership positions in various professional societies. Dr. Lawrence has received awards for teaching at UF and has won several national competitive grants for her research on the physiology and molecular biology of parasite-virus: host interactions. She has mentored several students and postdoctoral associates in her laboratory and is an especially strong advocate for programs supporting research experience for undergraduate students in faculty laboratories.
