Sandra and Stuart Newman Professional Advancement Fund
Support professional advancement for faculty in Public Relations Dept.
This fund was established in 2000 in honor of Sandra and Stuart Newman for the purpose of supporting professional advancement for faculty in the Department of Public Relations in the College of Journalism and Communications.
Newman was born April 22, 1922. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida in 1946. Newman was vice president of his graduating class, but enlisted in the U.S. Air Force before receiving his diploma. While at UF, Stuart became a member of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity.
He is the founder and chief executive of Stuart Newman Associates, Inc., a public relations and marketing firm in Miami. He is widely recognized for founding South Florida’s first public relations professional organization. He has served as president of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Miami Chapter, and he was a member of the UF College of Journalism Public Relations Advisory Council from 1986 until 1989. In 1994, Stuart was named a UF Distinguished Alumnus.
Stuart and Sandra have two children, Andrew and Cathy. Andrew is a 1977 graduate of the College of Journalism and Communications. He and wife Marie, have two sons Michael and Alan, who are both Gators.
