Frank Maturo Excellence Fund
Criteria: support graduate students in Zoology, annual award to support research in marine biology to be determined by the dept; first priority for graduate students to conduct research (marine or terrestrial) on or near Seahorse Key, Levy County, Florida; second priority for students who are interested in marine biology; recruitment and support of excellent graduate students.
This fund was established in 2000 by James I. Black III and University of Florida’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity members, in honor of professor emeritus Frank Maturo, and to support scholarships and fellowships in the Department of Zoology.
Dr. Maturo earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 1951 and master’s and doctoral degrees from Duke University in 1953 and 1956, respectively.
Maturo was a Professor Emeritus of Zoology at the University of Florida until his death in 2020. From 1970 to 1997, he was also Director of UF’s Marine Laboratory at Seahorse Key
