This endowed professorship was created through generous seed funding from Elekta Inc. and donations from colleagues and friends in honor of Mr. Thomas P. Mitchell and his commitment to lifelong learning and innovation in the healthcare field. Mitchell received a B.S. and M.S. in Physics at Louisiana Tech and went on to become a Fellow in Radiological Physics at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute. He began his career in clinical physics at UF in 1971 and was instrumental in the development of UF’s Department of Radiation Oncology into an international leader. The Thomas P. Mitchell Professorship in Clinical Physics will support research directly related to improving radiation therapy and enhancing the education and training of radiation therapy specialists.
