GA (and letter): support research in obstetrics and gynecology in College of Medicine.
This fund was established in 2000 by Margaret D. Endres, in honor of Keith Stone, to support research in obstetrics and gynecology in the College of Medicine.
Stone completed medical school training at the University of Virginia. His residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center was followed by completion of the McMurtry Fellowship Training in pelvic surgery at the University of Louisville. Prior to joining the University of Florida, Stone served in the U.S. Army as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Surgery at the Nuremberg, Germany MEDDAC. He was Chief of Gynecologic Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center. Upon joining UF, Stone maintained his military affiliation in the Reserves and was deployed for Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He retired as a Colonel with 32 years of service.
At UF, he served as Gynecology Division Director until 1995, when he assumed the chairmanship of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology until 2007, when his focus altered with concerns about the status of women in underdeveloped countries. In 2007 he served six months with Doctors Without Borders in West Africa. He continues to participate in international medical health care outreach programs through the UF College of Medicine programs in Latin America, and as a spokesperson for Doctors Without Borders. He received the 2009-2010 College of Medicine Clinical Science Teacher of the Year award.
