Julian Moore

The Julian Moore Award Fund was established as a memorial by the Florida poultry industry and friends of Extension Poultryman Julian S. Moore.

Julian Stephen Moore, a native of Chatham County, North Carolina, graduated from North Carolina State College with bachelor’s degree in poultry. He obtained a master’s degree in poultry at the University of Georgia, where he taught poultry science. In 1933, he moved to Harris County, Georgia, on a six-month assignment as administrator of the Agricultural Adjustment Act. He was hired as the first county agent in Harris County and held this position until 1943. He then became the manager of the Poultry Products Division of Blue Springs Farms, a 30,000 acre diversified farming operation owned by Cason Calloway. In 1948 and 1949 he was invited to speak at the Florida Poultry Institute. He accepted the Extension Poultry Specialist position with the Florida Cooperative Extension Service at the University of Florida in 1950. Moore held this position until his death in November, 1969.
