This fund was endowed by Billie K. and Betty C. Stevens to support term professorship in Health & Human Performance to expand teaching and research expertise by bringing visiting scholars to UF.
Billie earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a master’s degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University with continued graduate study at New York University. A physical education teacher at the PK Yonge Developmental Research School in Gainesville for ten years, Billie then joined the UF faculty as an original member of the College of Health and Human Performance faculty in 1946. A professor emeritus, he retired in 1976 and passed away in 2003.
Betty Stevens earned her bachelor’s degree at Auburn University and her master’s and doctoral degree from Syracuse University. Betty came to UF from Syracuse, where she was director of the graduate program in student personal administration. She served as UF’s Dean of Women from 1966 to 1969, retiring in 1976 as Associate Professor of Behavioral Studies.
Both Billy K. and Betty C. Stevens have been strong supporters of UF students in the College of Health and Human Performance. It is with this term professorship that the college can continue to enhance classroom experience by recruiting and retaining its best and brightest faculty.
