Dan Sikes
Proceeds from the 1989 University of Florida Golf Classic were used to fund this endowment in memory of Dan Sikes’ success as a Gator and PGA Tour golfer.
At UF, Sikes was a three-time letterwinner from 1951 to 1953, earned All-American honors in 1952 and helped lead the fighting gators to a 26-4-3 winning season. He graduated from UF with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1953 and bachelor’s of literary law degree in 1960.
Sikes won six PGA tour events from 1952 to 1968 and was known as the “Golfing Lawyer.” He was a member of the 1969 U.S. Ryder Cup team and in 1980 served as chairman of the Champions Advisory Council, which helped start the Modern-day Champions tour.
He passed away in December 1987 at the age of 57.
