Steve Spurrier
Prominent Brooksville businessman and loyal Gator fan, Alfred McKethan, funded this endowment honoring the former head football coach of the Florida Gators.
Steve Spurrier’s association with UF began in the 1960s, when as an All-American high school quarterback from eastern Tennessee he was signed by coach Ray Graves to play for UF. For three years Spurrier played quarterback with remarkable skill. In 1966, he became the first player in UF history to be awarded the Heisman Trophy. Spurrier set five records in the 1965 Sugar Bowl against Missouri and established eight SEC passing records. He lead the Gators to two major bowls in three seasons and eight come-from-behind wins in the final quarter.
