Sidney Knight Endowment Fund

This fund was established in 1988 by Grace and Sidney Knight for the purpose of supporting research related to the potential use of glucose in the treatment of opiate withdrawal.

Sidney was born March 5, 1902. He lived and worked in locations all over the world in England, Iraq and Shanghai, to name a few, where he met Grace, who had been living in China. The Knights moved to the U.S. in 1935. There, Sidney earned a master’s degree in business administration in 1937 at Harvard Business School. Over the next two decades, Sidney worked in a variety of organizations, mostly as a management consultant.

After several more years of working and traveling, the Knights retired in 1961. However, lazy afternoons on the beach near their home in Clearwater, FL, didn’t suit the Knights. At age 63, Grace and Sidney moved to Gainesville and received their degrees at the University of Florida.

Sidney earned a juris doctor from UF in 1965. Grace earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964 in journalism and a master’s degree in education in 1965. She preceded Sidney in death on December 23, 1986. Sidney passed away on February 24, 1999.
