Fund Purpose
Support scholarships for College of Law; recipient to be Editor-in-Chief of FL Law Review.

The University of Florida is very grateful for knowing Robert Mautz. Professor of law, chancellor of the state university system, vice president of academic affairs and board of regents member, Mautz was involved in numerous aspects of the state’s educational system. When Mautz began his eight-year term as chancellor in 1968, the system was composed of five universities. He increased the number to nine by the end of his service, and also added the UF dental and veterinary colleges. Due to his leadership, the enrollment and reputation of Florida’s state universities increased dramatically. After his service as chancellor, Mautz served on the Florida Postsecondary Education Planning Commission for 15 years until his death in 1996.

Mautz established an endowment in 1990 with his wife, Esther, to benefit the editor in chief of the Florida Law Review. Robert Bryan, UF’s first provost and long-time friend of Mautz, said, “His whole life was devoted to higher education. Everything he ever did with his life after he came here [to UF] in 1950 was in an attempt to make the University of Florida better and then make higher education in the state of Florida better.”

Dr. Mautz passed away in 1996 at the age of 8
