Peter J. Sones, Jr. Scholarship Endowment

When Tampa native Peter Sones first created a scholarship for pre-med students at UF, he wanted the award to reflect his belief that a liberal arts education provides an important and necessary educational foundation for all students. Sones wanted students to receive a complete education to supplement their scientific interest in medicine.

Sones attended Emory University where he earned a bachelor’s degree and an M.D. While in college, an academic advisor suggested he pursue his non-science interests. Sones chose to study political science and credits his decision with making him a better individual and physician. He remained on the faculty at Emory Hospital and became a Professor of Radiology.
